  Featuring an inset sourced from 1890s France, it is no coincidence that LYON takes its name from the city that was once the silk capital of Europe. For, like silk, it is ever-inviting but no pushover. Crisp geometric designs in the door’s centre give LYON an inner toughness. Square angles and tight circles feature amid the floral curves in its cast-iron centre. The sharpness complements an overall warm, earthy palette, which features the soft clay colour of the door’s paintwork, and the rich chocolate tones of its aged wood.

  The inset piece is supported by bases made of recycled stone, concrete, and natural fibre, and is protected on top by ultra-clear, low-iron tempered glass — a contemporary fusion that ably supports its ancient materials of wood and cast iron.
